Summer Camp 2011 Ages 13-17

We are so excited for our second session of camp!

Just a few reminders:

We've changed where we do drop off and pick up - Drop off at 9 am and pick up at 4 pm is now on the grass by the patient and visitor parking lot (Lot C) located on the south east end of the building.

Peer mentors are required to come at 8:30 am on Mondays for training with our staff.

Calendars will be posted weekly here on our blog. Our calendar may be changed on occasion based on the needs of the group, weather, traffic and other unforseen circumstances. We will do our best to notify families of the changes.

If you need to contact your child during camp or you have a question, please call our camp cell phone (801) 793-3046. Upon request a child may be permitted to keep a cell phone that is turned off and remains in their back pack. If we see any cell phones in use, we will confiscate them and return them to a parent at the end of the day.

Don't forget a water bottle, sunscreen and lunch daily!

Lemonade Stand and Bake Sale 2011

Thursday, June 30th, is our annual Kidstar Summer Camp Bake Sale and Lemonade Stand. In order for this to be successful, we need your help! Your camper has expressed a desire to bring a treat. (Please see the list below) We'll take care of the lemonade. All of the money earned will be used for an activity that the kids will choose.

UNIF 2011

The Kidstar Summer Camp for Children with Autism, which we lovingly call UNIF, is based at the University Neuropsychiatric Institute (UNI). This camp is all about having fun so we changed the name to University Neuropsychiatric Institute of Fun. Our camp is designed to help children with high functioning Autism or Aspberger's Disorder learn and practice social skills in a safe and fun environment. Our camp follows a peer modeling structure which means that each child or adolescent is paired with a new typically developing "buddy" each week. We try to create activities in which the buddies work together in hopes that social knowledge and social skills are learned and practiced. These activities range from getting-to-know-you actvities, arts and crafts, sports and interactive games. We traditionally take multiple field trips including: Sweet's Candy Factory, Kennecott Copper Mine, Clark Planetarium, and Nickelmania nickel arcade.

Applications for camp this year are available online beginning March 15th at www.healthcare.utah.edu/uni.

Camp is held Monday through Thursday 9am - 4 pm at the University Neuropsychiatric Institute. The dates for the 2011 camp are as follows:

July 18 - August 11

Summer 2009

We are excited for camp this summer! It will be a great chance to meet new people and enjoy an active and fun summer!

In an effort to cover our costs, we will be charging everyone tuition this year. The cost for Campers (chidlren with an autism diagnosis) will be $212.50 per week with a two week minimum. The cost for our peer mentors will be $93.75 per week with a two week minimum. We hope you recognize this as an excellent value. As soon as we recieve your application, a bill will be sent directly to the address that you provide. Payment in full is expected by the first day of camp. Along with the added tuition, we will no longer be providing lunches. Participants will need to bring their own sack lunch each day. Snacks will still be provided.

We would love to know if you are interested in participating in camp this summer, so that we can plan on saving a space for you! If you are interested, please email Karina.Rasmussen@hsc.utah.edu or Kayla.Register@hsc.utah.edu with your address and the age of your child and we will mail you an application. We will consider applications on a first come first serve basis. Also, please give us your input by listing activities you would like to do on the back side of your application.

The dates for the younger camp (agest 8-12) are June 15th through July 9th. The dates for the older camp (ages 13-17) are July 20th through August 13th. Camp is Monday through Thursday from 9 am until 4 pm. Please note the change in hours this year.
